Offshore Mechanical Technician

Wood is currently recruiting for an offshore Mechanical Technician with previous international experience of working on a large-scale offshore oil and gas installation, ideally in the North Sea.
The position is based in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The normal working rotation 4 weeks on / 4 weeks off.
The Mechanical Technician will perform a variety of duties regarding installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and overhauling of machinery and/or mechanical equipment including Caterpillar Diesel Engines and a range of Pumps.
A key function of the role will be to train and mentor a small team of national employees.
- Reporting to on-shift Maintenance Supervisor
- To ensure all maintenance activities are undertaken on the facility are and remain aligned to company / client business goals, in terms of Safety, Environmental Discharge, Equipment cost and Maintenance cost
- Responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of the firm's equipment, including compressors and motors.
- Performs major mechanical overhauls with minimal supervision
- Verifies dimensions, specifications, and tolerances using blueprints
- Ensures that mechanical equipment within a limited area of operations is properly installed, operating within design limits, repaired and maintained.
- Conduct field mechanical practices while providing the Company with the best probability of success in a timely manner while minimizing downtime and expenditures.
- Actively participating in embedding Client’s values and culture, identifying and reporting any areas that are deficient so that improvements can be made.
- Demonstration and acceptance of walk down, pre checks of system for handover
- Lead day to day planning and execution of all Mechanical activities
- Ensure that all lifting related items are appropriately tested and certified and compilation of lifting register.
- Review and take ownership of special tooling delivered with packages to make sure that nothing goes missing
- Ensure effective systems are maintained for the identification, assessment and control of significant environmental risks at site.
- Carrying out activities to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of all aspects of the Maintenance scopes
- Participate in task base risk assessment and provide technical input (mechanical) where necessary
- Report immediately any identified unsafe acts or conditions using the company’s procedures, e.g. STOP, Near Miss Report, Unsafe Condition Report, HART card, etc.
- If required, participate and contribute to any Company held meetings offshore.
- Observe Company safety rules and regulations, including permit to work system and comply with same
- Put forward suggestions and develop modification requests as necessary to improve plant/equipment efficiency/safety operations.
- Adhere to the Client site permit to work system while carrying out maintenance activities
- Participate and actively encourage fostering of a ONE TEAM approach for the O&M crew and the third party contractors staff that will be part of the core team make up.
- Demonstrate competence at a fundamental level through training and experience and pursue completion of project-specific training and competency requirements in liaison with onshore and offshore support specialists
- Display a good understanding of industry and HSE practices applicable to technician role
- Maintain HSE compliance at all stages of the work scope

Specific Tasks – Operational
- Carry out routine planned maintenance on all areas of mechanical and rotating equipment
- Assist and work with specialised vendors who visit platform, ensure that all tasks are completed correctly and safely, also ensure that a site report is written and recorded on the platform maintenance database
- Ability to interpret /mark-up of technical drawings
- In conjunction with your supervisor progress and complete training plans as identified by your annual appraisal and competency matrix.
- Minimise wastage in all areas of work e.g. un-used materials returned to stock
- Complete appropriate training as a member of the helideck crew.
- Act as part of the Emergency Response Team as required.
- Rigger, Banksman and Slinger duties

- Investigate and repair mechanical and rotating defects or breakdown and advice Team Lead of status.
- The safe condition of all machinery and that it is operated in a safe manner and that all operations are carried out according to correct and safe procedures as directed
- Ensures the installation, testing and maintenance of mechanical equipment is conducted in accordance with Company requirements and statutory Government standards.
- Ensures the required supplies of spare parts are available, prepares and requisitions items required.
- Assist in the future, development mentoring and competency sign off of technician trainees
- Maintains and updates records and reports
- Maintains good housekeeping conditions in workshop and work sites
- Check out work covered by commissioning/acceptance documentation to ensure systems are as outlined/operational and signs documentation to this effect
- Required to assist and work with other disciplines when required, where multi-skilling within a team culture is a major area of development on the platform.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and ensure work is executed in line with Client Permit to Work system.
- Preparing reports on all mechanical maintenance / repair works carried out.
- Carry out other general duties as requested; e.g. valve maintenance, repairs and recertification.
- Carry out condition monitoring tasks.
- Assist with the implementation of the Offshore Technical Integrity strategy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Technical apprenticeship or an equivalent training scheme
- Level 3 VQ - Mechanical Maintenance
- MJI10 (PF010) Hand Torque Bolted Connection Techniques- Stage 1
- City & Guilds Competence in Process Plant & Equipment Isolations
- BOSIET / MEDICAL / MIST training
- Emergency Response Team
Job Specific Skills:
- Several years previous experience working on an offshore production platform in an international location
- Knowledge of North Sea offshore Mechanical and Operating standards
- Specific experience in the repair of Caterpillar Diesel Engines
- Specific experience in the repair of Pumps (Centrifugal, Progressive Cavity, Positive Displacement, Turbine Pumps)
- Systematic and analytical approach to management of change and associated procedures.
- Ability to transform problems into a solution with achievable outcome
